Chiclana Southeast of Cadiz and set back from the coast is the town of Chiclana, it is situated on the edge of a protected saltmarsh called the Marismas de Sancti Petri Natural Area. Chiclana’s nearest beach resort is Sancti Petri, which is worth a visit in summer for its boat trips to the Sancti Petri island with its lighthouse and ruined 18th Century castle which was built by the Phoenicians on the ruins of the temple of Zeus. In Sancti Petri there is also a golf course that was designed by Seve Ballesteros which has stunning views of the sea. The Balneario Fuenteamarga freshwater spring is located at the seaside town of Chiclana and its therapeutic properties are reputed to treat numerous circulatory, muscle and skin complaints. Chiclana is another typical Andalucian town with white houses, charming narrow cobbled streets and balconies adorned with flowers. It’s nearest beach La Barrosa is 8 km long and well worth a visit.
