The Cadiz section of the coastline runs from the Guadalquivir river in the west to where the Mediterranean starts in the east. This part of the coastline is very dramatic in many ways, the scenery is stunning, wooded hillsides, enormous sand dunes and pine forests that meet the beach all make it an enchanting area. Apart from the scenery though the wind and waves also lend a special atmosphere, on the Cadiz coastline you have some of the best windsurfing in Europe and undoubtably some of the best surfing to be found in southern Spain. For windsurfing, Tarifa, at the eastern edge of the Costa de la Luz has long been known as Europe’s windsurfing ‘mecca’ and towns such as El Palmar and Conil further to the west offer some great surfing spots. If that sounds a bit too much like hard work then you’ll be glad to know that the area is also famous for it’s wine and in particular its ‘manzanilla’. As you would expect, being on the atlantic, the seafood is fantastic so its lucky they make decent wine to wash it down with.
